Beechwood Neighborhood - Rochester, NY

Overview

Located in northeast Rochester, Beechwood is bordered to the north by Bay Street, to the east by Culver Road, to the south by East Main Street and to the west by North Goodman Street. The neighborhood has affordable large, well-kept houses on tree-lined streets and a strong neighborhood association. There are several fine restaurants and shops in Beechwood as well as national chain pharmacies such as Rite Aid.

Beechwood is a diverse neighborhood with a mix of younger families and residents who have lived here for years.




Essentials

The Sully Branch library is at the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center. There’s a post office at 300 Waring Road, and national chain pharmacies throughout the area. The Swan Market, at 231 Parsells Ave., is a German deli that also has catering.




Recreation & Entertainment

The Public Market, which is within walking distance, is bustling with activity on weekends and has free concerts in the summer. The neighborhood has two arts organizations: The Dazzle School of Visual & Performing Arts, and the Museum for Kids Art, both on Webster Avenue. The Swan Market occasionally hosts German musicians. The Ryan Center hosts a variety of activities for children and families.




Transportation & Traffic

As this is a mostly residential neighborhood, traffic is not unusually heavy. The busiest thoroughfares are Culver Road, where traffic can be heavy during rush hour, as well as East Main Street and North Goodman. Getting to downtown is fairly easy because of its proximity.




Pros & Cons

Beechwood offers some wonderful bargains on stately houses. The area is affordable for families, although not with the most vibrant nightlife.
