Welcome to Hartland, NY

Overview

The town of Hartland is on the eastern end of Niagara County, bordered to the north by Somerset, to the east by Orleans County (town of Ridgeway), to the south by Royalton and to the west by Newfane. Hartland has four hamlets, and a small part of the village of Middleport is in the southeast part of town. Hartland shares a school district with neighboring Royalton. Hartland’s Town Hall is actually located in Gasport, a hamlet in neighboring Royalton.

Essentials

For grocery shopping, Tops Friendly Markets has three stores in nearby Lockport (about 9 miles southwest) – on Lockport-Olcott Road, on Transit Road and on Rochester Road. The closest Wegmans supermarket is a good ways away, 25 miles southwest in Williamsville (on Transit Road). Middleport has a few small stores and Gasport has a Dollar General among the places to shop. Lockport is your best bet for grocery and retail shopping – the city, which is the county seat, has a Walmart and other major retailers that you won’t find in Hartland.

Recreation & Entertainment

One rather unique attraction here is the Sunset Drive In, which is in Middleport. The village also has a flea market and a few other attractions. Generally, recreation and entertainment here is of the outdoor sort – hunting, hiking, camping, golf and fishing in Eighteen Mile Creek and nearby Lake Ontario.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 104 is the main east-west road here. Route 148 runs north-south through the center of town. Route 269 runs north-south at the eastern edge of town, separating Niagara and Orleans counties.

Pros & Cons

Wide-open rural space is the attraction here. You’re about equally distant from busier Lockport to the southwest and Medina in Orleans County to the east. Lake Ontario and all it has to offer are a quick drive north.
