Welcome to Lewiston, NY

Overview

Lewiston is a town on the western edge of Niagara County, bordered to the north by Porter (and a small part of Wilson), to the east by Cambria, to the south by Niagara (and Niagara Falls) and Wheatfield, and to the west by the Niagara River, which is an international border with Canada. Lewiston includes a village also named Lewiston, five hamlets and several parks. Lewiston has one of four border crossings into Canada – two others are in Niagara Falls and the other is near Buffalo. The enormous New York Power Authority’s Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant is located in Lewiston, along with a large artificial lake used to store water for power generation.

There are plenty of places to shop in and near Lewiston. For grocery shopping, Lewiston has a Top’s Friendly Markets store on Center Street. Lewiston also has a Dollar General and smaller boutique- and gift shops. You can also do duty-free shopping here in retail outlets that are exempt from some local and national taxes. For more grocery shopping options, there’s a Wegmans supermarket on Military Road in Niagara Falls, just 8 miles southeast of Lewiston. Niagara Falls has a bevy of other places to shop, too, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Kmart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, and Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls.



Recreation & Entertainment

Artpark hosts a series of popular outdoor concerts every summer that attracts visitors from throughout the region. Artpark also offers theater, art, camps for kids, hiking trails, picnic areas and fishing docks. Lewiston has two other state parks within its borders – Devil’s Hole State Park and Reservoir State Park – as well as Bonds Lake County Park. Suffice it to say, there’s plenty of room for outdoor activities here. You’re also just minutes from Niagara Falls, which is home to the enormously popular Seneca Niagara Casino, the Niagara Falls State Park, a daredevil museum and many other attractions.



Transportation & Traffic

Several highways pass through the well-traveled town of Lewiston, including Interstate 190 (which takes you to the Canadian border crossing), the east-west Route 18 and Route 31, and the north-south Route 61, Route 265 (Military Road), and the scenic Robert Moses State Parkway.



Pros & Cons

Lewiston is a historic town with lovely scenery on the Niagara River. The town has plenty of quality places to eat and lots of highways for easy travel. Niagara Falls (N.Y.) is a quick drive south, and the town has a border crossing into Canada and the bustling tourist area of Niagara Falls, Canada.
