Welcome to Royalton, NY

Overview

Royalton is a town in the southeast corner of Niagara County, bordered to the north by Hartland, to the east by Orleans County (town of Shelby and the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge), to the south by Erie County (town of Newstead) and to the west by Lockport and partly by the town of Clarence, Erie County. Royalton includes several hamlets, the best-known of which is Gasport, and the village of Middleport, which is in the northeast corner of town and partly shared by Hartland.


Essentials

For shopping, Gasport has a Dollar General store and Middleport has a Corner Store. A wider variety of shopping choices can be found in Lockport and in Medina, both of which are short drives from Royalton. For groceries, Lockport has three Top’s Friendly Markets stores and Medina has one, and both towns have smaller groceries (like the Nice n Easy Grocery Shoppe in Medina). The closest Wegmans supermarkets are longer drives – there’s one in Amherst in one in Williamsville, both about 19 miles away.



Recreation & Entertainment

In Royalton, most of the entertainment choices are of the outdoor variety – hunting, camping, hiking, picnicking and the like. With its setting on the Erie Canal, Middleport offers boating and occasional canal-related activities. Middleport also has the Sunset Drive in, one of only a few drive-ins left in the region.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 31 runs east-west through the north part of Royalton. Route 93 is another east-west thoroughfare. Route 77 is a north-south highway that runs through town.



Pros & Cons

If you like wide-open spaces, Royalton is for you. The busier towns of Lockport and Medina both are short drives from Royalton. The Erie Canal runs through Middleport, offering boating and canal-related attractions and events.
