Just east is Cayuga Lake, so here, you’re right in the heart of two of the major and popular Finger Lakes, where fishing, boating, camping and other outdoor activities are abundant. The village of Waterloo has several historic sites and is the birthplace of New York Giants football coach Tom Coughlin. The Cayuga-Seneca Canal, a 9-mile canal that used to be part of the Erie Canal, runs through Waterloo.

The National Memorial Day Museum is in a quaint brick building on Main Street. Several places here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the William H. Burton House, First Presbyterian Church, Hunt House, McClintock House, St. Paul’s Church, United Methodist Church, the post office and the library.
