Welcome to Ellicott, NY

Overview

Ellicott is a town in southeastern Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by Gerry, to the east by Poland and a bit of Carroll, to the south by Kiantone and Busti, and to the west by Ellery, Busti and the eastern end of Chautauqua Lake. Ellicott includes the villages of Celoron and Falconer; the city of Jamestown is surrounded on three sides of Ellicott. The town has an urban/rural mix with suburban neighborhoods and lush, rolling farmland.

Essentials

Most shopping needs are met just minutes from Ellicott. For grocery shopping, Jamestown has a Wegmans supermarket and two Tops Friendly Markets stores as well as small stores like Save-a-Lot. For retail shopping, the village of Lakewood, just west of Celoron, has a Walmart Supercenter and the Chautauqua Mall, which has stores including JC Penney, Sears and more. The mall also has a movie-theater multiplex.

Recreation & Entertainment

Ellicott has only a few attractions, but many more are nearby in Jamestown and Lakewood. Celoron offers “Summer Wind Lake Cruises” aboard a yacht-type cruise ship on Chautauqua Lake. Jamestown has a slew of museums as well as the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena (for concerts, major shows, hockey and conventions), the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts (called the “Showplace of the Chautauqua Region”), the Lucille Ball Little Theatre (which hosts five major productions annually), the Spire Theater and the Willow Bay Theater. The nearby Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood has a movie-theater multiplex and more.

Transportation & Traffic

The Southern Tier Expressway (Route 17 and Interstate 86) passes through Ellicott north of Jamestown. Route 60 is a major north-south highway, and Route 394 is an east-west route that parallels the Southern Tier Expressway in the southeast part of town. The Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport is north of the city.

Pros & Cons

The town has more of a suburban or even rural feel than its busier neighbors, but the attractions and activities in Jamestown and Lakewood are just minutes away. You’re also close to Chautauqua Lake and its attractions.
