Welcome to French Creek, NY

Overview

French Creek is a town in the southwest corner of Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by Mina (and the hamlet of Findley Lake), to the east by Clymer, to the south by Pennsylvania (town of Wayne Township in Erie County) and to the west by Venango Township, also in Erie County, Pa. The popular Peek N’ Peak Resort and Spa is in French Creek. With just under 1,000 residents, French Creek is the least-populated town in the county. The town is named after the stream that runs through it. French Creek has a few hamlets but no village.


Essentials

French Creek is largely rural and has few places to shop, but there are plenty of nearby options. For grocery shopping, the closest choice is the French Creek General Store in Clymer. Also in Clymer is the century-old Neckers Company General Store. The Findley Lake Market is on Main Street in Findley Lake (town of Mina). Sherman has a small business district that includes Mack’s Hometown Market. Larger supermarkets are a bit farther away – there’s a Tops Friendly Markets store in Union City, Pa., about 18 miles south of French Creek.



Recreation & Entertainment

The attractions here are of the outdoor variety – activities like camping, hiking, fishing and the like. The biggest attraction in the area is the Peek ‘N Peak Resort, Spa and Adventure Park in Clymer, which offers golf, skiing, swimming, tennis, spa facilities and a new Adventure Park with zip lines and more. Nearby Findley Lake is a charming community with lakeside attractions like the Blue Heron Inn, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor and lots of specialty shops. About half an hour northwest is Erie, Pa., a major city with many more things to do.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 426 is a major north-south road that runs through French Creek and intersects with Route 474, an east-west highway, in the hamlet of Cutting.



Pros & Cons

You’re in the far southwest corner of Chautauqua County and close to northern Pennsylvania. Clymer is a small town with lots of open space.
