Welcome to Alabama, NY

Overview

Alabama is in the northwest corner of Genesee County, bordered to the west by the Tonawanda Indian Reservation and the Tonawanda State Wildlife Management Area (as well as Niagara and Erie counties), and to the north by Orleans County and the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. To the south is the town of Pembroke, and to the east, the town of Oakfield. Because of the reservation and wildlife areas, Alabama is one of the least developed communities in Genesee County, making it ideal for outdoor lovers.

Essentials

For most of their shopping needs, residents will head to Medina, a short 8-mile drive north, where you’ll find a Top’s Friendly Market grocery store and an historic downtown with a variety of shops and restaurants. Batavia, a quick trip southeast, has a wide variety of stores, including Walmart, Kmart, Sears and JCPenney’s. The Oakfield-Alabama Central School District serves this area.

The village of Medina offers a number of options in a quick drive, including a large train museum, bowling, movies and other activities. Batavia, with its casino and racetrack, baseball team and other attractions, is a short trip southeast.
