Overview

Byron is one of five towns in the northern tier of Genesee County, just west of the town of Bergen in the northeast quadrant and northeast of the city of Batavia. This is a small, quiet town where you enjoy country living with the benefits of being close to a city. Byron, which was named after Lord Byron, shares a school district with Bergen and the two towns are often associated together. Byron has traditionally been a rural area of dairy and vegetable farms. That’s still true today, although the town does have a few small businesses, such as a hardware store, an auto-repair shop, a pizzeria and a veterinary clinic. The town includes the hamlets of Byron and Pumpkin Hill, which also is called North Byron.

Byron has a convenience store, a pizza shop and a hardware store among its small business corridor. A quick 10-mile drive gets you to Batavia, where you’ll find a wide variety of retail, including Walmart, Target, Kmart and Sears, as well as a variety of family restaurants, fast-food joints and finer dining options. Recreation & Entertainment

The Gillam Grant Community Center in Bergen offers programs for seniors, adults, youths and preschoolers, along with youth sports activities. Transportation & Traffic

Byron is situated at the crossroads of Route 237 (heading north-south) and Route 262 (east-west). Route 33 is about five miles south of Byron, and the Thruway is just beyond Route 33.



Pros & Cons

Small-town country living is the norm in this farming community. Batavia is a quick drive southwest, and Orleans County is just north of Byron.
