Overview

The Town of Pembroke is on the western edge of Genesee County, bordered on the west by the Erie County towns of Newstead and Alden and on the east by Batavia. Pembroke includes the village of Corfu and several hamlets, including Indian Falls, East Pembroke and North Pembroke. Four major highways run through the center of town: Route 5, Route 33, Route 77 and the Thruway. Once mainly a farming community, Pembroke has become more of a bedroom community for people who work in neighboring towns, with a growing business district and several restaurants, mainly in the village of Corfu.


Essentials

The village of Corfu has a thriving business district, with a grocery store, bank, pharmacy, bakery, family diner and pizza shop. For a wider variety of shopping, Batavia, a quick drive east, has retail like Walmart, Kmart, Sears and Target, as well as supermarkets like Top’s Friendly Markets. The village of Akron, just five miles northwest of Pembroke, has a variety of shopping options. For schools, the Pembroke Central School District is well-regarded and has received recognition from national publications. 



Recreation & Entertainment

The largest theme park in New York is Darien Lakes Theme Park, and the place is just a few miles south of Pembroke. Darien Lakes State Park, also in Darien, has 1,800 acres of woodlands and meadows and a 12-acre lake for boating, swimming and fishing, as well as camping. Alpaca Odyssey in nearby Akron, Erie County, has farm tours and a country store.  



Transportation & Traffic

Pembroke is well-traveled and easy to get to, with four highways passing through town (Route 5, Route 33, Route 77, and the Thruway). There’s a Thruway exit in Pembroke.



Pros & Cons

Pembroke’s school district has been praised for its academic excellence, and the town has been becoming more of a bedroom community for residents who work in other towns. Travel is easy here because of the abundance of major highways, including the Thruway. The charming village of Corfu has a growing business district.
