Wheatfield has several hamlets but no village, but that doesn’t really matter because Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda and Amherst are so close. Wheatfield has grown in population in recent decades but still is largely an agricultural town. Still, there are plenty of places to shop and dine nearby, particularly on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Buffalo, the second-biggest city in New York State, is only 18 miles south.
Local Museums & Landmarks
Wheatfield doesn’t have any landmarks to speak of, but there are plenty of historic sites and museums just minutes away. North Tonawanda (just 3 miles south) has several properties on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Herschell Carousel Factory, the Riviera Theatre, the Carnegie Library, and the U.S. Post Office. The city also has the North Tonawanda History Museum, and the carousel factory has its own museum. Niagara Falls (just 5 miles west), of course, has the world-renowned falls and attractions like the Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist, as well as several museums (Niagara Aerospace Museum, Niagara Science Museum, Niagara Wax Museum, Das Haus Museum and a daredevil museum).
