OverviewWilson is a town in north-central Niagara County, bordered to the north by Lake Ontario, to the east by Newfane, to the south by Cambria (and a small part of Lewiston) and to the west by Porter. The town of Wilson includes several hamlets and a village also named Wilson. Some of the communities here are “shoreline hamlets” like Coolidge Beach, Hopkins Beach and Roosevelt Beach. Wilson-Tuscarora State Park, which has a beach, hiking trails and a disc golf course and offers canoeing, swimming, hunting and fishing, is in Wilson. With the town’s location on the shores of Lake Ontario, fishing and boating are big here. The village has a small boat harbor with several marinas and boat-launch facilities. The area has some of the best bass, trout and salmon fishing in western New York. On a clear day, it’s claimed that you can see the skyscrapers of Toronto from the village of Wilson. A tourism website calls Wilson a “sleepy, one stoplight village and farming community” where you’ll find corn fields, apple and cherry orchards and the occasional vineyard.
Local Museums & Landmarks The active Wilson Historical Society has a museum and attractions like a train caboose, a log cabin and the Randall Road Schoolhouse, a one-room schoolhouse. The Morse Cobblestone Farmhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Morgan Johnson House is one of a few cobblestone houses in Wilson.
