Welcome to Yates, NY


Overview

The town of Yates is in the northwest corner of Orleans County, bordered to the north by Lake Ontario, to the south by south by Ridgeway, to the east by Carlton and to the west by Somerset, Niagara County. Yates includes the village of Lyndonville and hamlets including Yates Center and Millers. With its shoreline locale, fishing and boating on Lake Ontario are popular here, and you’re close to Golden Hill State Park to the west and Lakeside Beach State Park to the east.


Essentials

For shopping, the village of Lyndonville has a couple of general stores, as well as a bank, hair stylist, and a Penny Saver Market store. For more shopping, residents take a short drive south to Medina – where you’ll find a Top’s Friendly Market grocery store – or southwest, to Lockport in Niagara County. There’s a Walmart Supercenter just to the southeast, in Albion. 



Recreation & Entertainment

Fishing, boating, hunting and other outdoor activities are popular here. Nearby Middleport has a drive-in movie theater that is popular in the summer. Olcott Beach, a short drive west, has an old-fashioned amusement park and waterfront restaurants. Two state parks are just minutes away. Lockport, a short drive southwest, has a movie theater, and Medina, a quick trip south, has a bowling center and a popular train museum.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 63 runs north and south through the middle of Yates. Route 18 is the main east-west roadway in the area. Route 104, a major east-west highway, is just south of the village of Lyndonville.



Pros & Cons

Lakeview property at affordable rates is available in Yates. With a lot of wide-open spaces, this area is ideal for outdoorsy people who enjoy small-town living. Lyndonville is a quaint, quiet village. You’re close to Niagara County (and Lockport and Niagara Falls) to the west and the historic village of Medina to the south. Two state parks are nearby, to the northeast and to the northwest.
