Overview Arcade is one of the four “main” towns in Wyoming County and is located in the southwest corner of the county. The town is bordered to the north by Java, to the east by Eagle, to the south by Cattaraugus County and to the west by Erie County (town of Sardinia). Arcade includes a village also named Arcade, as well as the hamlets of Arcade Center and East Arcade. This is the home of the Arcade and Attica Railroad, one of the region’s top attractions. The railroad is billed as “the only steam excursion in New York state” and is especially popular for fall foliage tours. Prestolite Electric, in the former Motorola building, is a major employer in the area. Local Museums/Landmarks The Arcade Historical Society, in the Gibby House at 331 West Main St., was formed in 1957. Ressler’s Corn Maize is in Arcade.

Essentials For grocery shopping, Arcade has a Top’s Friendly Markets store on West Main Street. For retail shopping, there’s a Walmart store in Springville, Erie County, about 14 miles west. The regional hospital is Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, about 26 miles northeast. More hospitals can be found further away in the Buffalo area, about 40 miles west. Arcade is part of the Pioneer Central School District, one of the largest geographically in the state. The district covers about 250 square miles and includes parts of Erie, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties as well as Arcade. One of the district’s elementary schools is in Arcade; the middle- and high schools are in Yorkshire, only three miles west of Arcade. A branch of Genesee Community College is in Arcade. The local library, Arcade Free Library, is at 365 Main St.

Turkey Run Golf Course, a nine-hole course on Bixby Hill Road, is in Arcade. Other golf courses can be found in nearby towns, like Archie’s Golf Club in Java Center to the north. Beaver Meadow Family Campground, which has an outdoor pool, a fishing pond and other attractions, and Beaver Meadow Audubon Center also are in Java. Hidden Valley Animal Adventure, a “safari” park, is 20 miles north in Varysburg.

Pros & Cons Arcade has more to offer than some of the other smaller towns in Wyoming County, but the place still has plenty of wide-open spaces. Arcade is part of a huge geographic school district, but the elementary school is in town and the middle- and high schools are just a few miles away. Proximity to Erie County is a plus.
