Welcome to Java, NY


Overview

Java is a town on the western edge of Wyoming County, bordered to the north by Sheldon, to the east by Wethersfield, to the south by Arcade and to the west by Erie County. The town includes several hamlets, such as Java Center and Waldos Corners. Java Lake is in town, and the Cattaraugus Creek flows through town on its way to Lake Erie. The Arcade & Attica Railroad, a historic steam engine train, travels here from Arcade. A long-ago professional wrestler, Ed Don George, was born in Java.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, residents here take a short trip south to Arcade, which has a Top’s Friendly Markets store. For retail shopping, the closest stops are Walmart stores in Warsaw, about 19 miles northeast, and in Springville, Erie County, about 21 miles southwest. Java is part of three school districts: primarily, the Attica Central School District, but also the Warsaw Central School District and the Pioneer Central School District.  



Recreation & Entertainment

The biggest attraction here is the Arcade & Attica Railroad, which travels here from Arcade. Beaver Meadow Family Campground which has an outdoor pool, a fishing pond and other attractions, is in Java. Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, a popular wildlife area with hiking trails, also is in Java. Archie’s Golf Club is in Java Center, and other golf courses can be found in nearby towns such as Arcade. Hidden Valley Animal Adventure, a “safari” park, is 11 miles north in Varysburg, where you’ll also find Byrncliff Resort and Conference Center.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 78 (heading east-west) and Route 98 (north-south) intersect in Java Center..



Pros & Cons

With the lake and creek in Java, this is a good place for fishing (as well as other outdoor activities, such as hunting and hiking). The railroad is a popular tourist attraction. Proximity to Erie County is a plus.
